It’s that time of year again: pies to bake, side dishes to make and a family to get out the door and on the road. The holidays are a busy time and it is easy to make an excuse not to workout, but not this time. Even a short, effective 20 minute workout will get your blood flowing, get you breaking a sweat and feeling strong and energized as you tackle the holiday.
Someone recently asked me about my thanksgiving meal, “you will indulge tomorrow, right?” It made me chuckle. You bet I will enjoy the foods I like to eat on the holidays. In fact, I always enjoy my favorite foods, but I do follow these tips at every holiday gathering. For me, it is more about the small traditions and being with my family and friends than it is about the food. And one of those traditions is always waking up on Thanksgiving day, taking the kiddos to grandma & grandpa’s and enjoying a local 5k with my husband. We then come home, enjoy a cup of coffee in silence and get ready for the day. I encourage you too, to move this Holiday season. Whether it is a local race, a spin class or an at-hoome workout: BEFORE YOU EAT, MOVE YOUR FEET (and make it a tradition).
A Holiday Workout
It is a tradition here on Muscles & Munchkins to share a Thanksgiving day workout with you. In fact, this workout can be done anytime and is the perfect at-home, bodyweight workout that can be done before any holiday gathering. This bodyweight workout combines lower body power moves that get your heart rate up, core work and strength moves for a great full body burn that can be done in your living room (or kitchen while you are cooking). So set your timer and move your feet before you eat.
This workout is divided into 3 sets. You will complete each set anywhere from 2-4 times before moving onto the next set. Al three exercises in the set should be completed back-to-back. Once you are done, take a 30 second break before starting the set again or completing the next set.
What a tough challenge at the end to really feel the burn? Once you are done completing each set, complete the sets 1 time each consecutively with no rest for an awesome finisher!
Want to know how to complete the moves? Visit my YouTube video of the demonstration for this workout.
This workout is beneficial for many reasons: you can do it without going anywhere, it doesn’t take up a lot of time and it is truly a great full body burn.
Try this workout before you begin your holiday gathering. And if you like it then save it or pin it for the next time you need a good, quick full body workout this holiday season. Oh and I’d love for you to post a selfie when you are done and tag Muscles & Munchkins on Facebook or use #musclesandmunchkins on Instagram.
