This weekend my second trimester comes to and end and it is time to share all of my favorite things during this last 14 weeks. I think it is a given that I have loved all the fun baby-related things that come with the second trimester: the baby kicks, the growing belly that C loves to talk to, and the fact that M now points to my belly and says “baby”. I am enjoying all the fun things that go along with a growing belly and my third pregnancy.
In addition to those fun things that happen to your body when you are carrying another child, there are some things that I have absolutely loved my second trimester- items I feel are a must-have during this stage of pregnancy. If you are expecting, have a friend who is expecting or see growing your family in the future, you are going to want to read this list.
If I could only have one piece of maternity clothing it would be these Gap demi panel maternity jeans. In fact, I just had to order another pair. These were a hand-me-down from a friend during my last pregnancy and made it through 3 3/4 pregnancies before they got a little rip. They are the best, most comfortable and cute maternity jeans. They are also perfect for post baby. I might like these even better than my regular jeans!
These Athleta capris are my favorite when I am not pregnant and have been awesome through this pregnancy. I love that i can still comfortably wear these. I also like to wear them even when I am not working out. I am sure they will be a little stretched out when I am done so I did put my favorite ones away to save them for when I am done.
Another non maternity item that I still wearing is the Lululemon Power Y tank. I have two of these and I thought about getting rid of them recently and then I got pregnant. They are nice and stretchy and long.
4. Jean Jackets
I love my jean jackets and they make not-so-lovely maternity outfits a little more lovely. I even like to put them over my tanks with my workout pants to wear to and from the gym, especially my one with the sweater sleeves.
I have mentioned the rowing machine in the last Journey to Baby #3 update and my love for the rowing machine just keeps growing. It is impossible for me to run on the treadmill without having to then run to the restroom after 2-3 minutes. Sprint intervals on the rowing machine has been my go-to cardio workout. Throw in some medicine ball or kettle bell work with and I am a hot, sweaty, strong pregnant mess– and I love it!
Just like the rowing machine, my love for the kettle bell grows and grows. It is so versatile and has been my favorite piece of prenatal workout equipment– and I don’t see that changing once the baby gets here.
6. Lemon Water
Hello dehydration, hello lemon water! I have to have lemon in my water at all times. I think I buy about 10 lemons per week (Yes, that is $10 in lemons every time I go to the store.) I am drinking almost 2 gallons of lemon water a day.
My love for oatmeal has only increased during this pregnancy. Some days I feel like I need all the carbs in the world and this is the perfect snack for me. Plus, I can add some egg whites in there for some extra protein, especially when I am not feeling my normal protein choices.
9. Fig Newtons
I know these are not the best thing for me, but man they have been my go-to post workout snack. I have been packing 3-4 fig newtons and 3 eggs in my workout bag for weeks now. The quick, carb replenishment has helped me recover and not become ravenous in the late afternoon.
10. Afternoon Naps
I can’t make it without an afternoon nap. I have always required a lot of sleep and this pregnancy seems to have increased that amount of sleep by about 2 hours a day. Every day I say, “I am not going to take a nap, I have too much to do, but once that 2 o’clock hour rolls around and the house is quiet, I have to put my head down for at least 45 minutes. I have officially just accepted the fact that every day I will take a nap– end of story.
As we wrap up this second trimester and move onto the third, I am sure these ten things will remain constant in my life. In fact, yesterday I had to order another pair of my favorite gap maternity jeans because I put mine on and realized after all those pregnancies there is a hole! And I just went to the pantry to get some fig newtons and realized I am out! Now the real question is, what will be added to this list for the third trimester? My guess is leggings and comfy dresses as this belly gets bigger!
