After an awesome, long weekend with family and great friends, Monday is here! I like Mondays and welcome them, but this one is a little hard after we have had four days of much-needed family time. My body is really going to appreciate today and getting back into my normal eating habits as I indulged a little too much this weekend. I did however get in my workouts and stay active. I love that my whole family is active and so are my friends!
It has been quite some time since I have written a Weekend Recap and I thought this was the time. Our weekend actually started on Wednesday night when my best friend from college, her husband and their brand new daughter arrived in town at about 8:30pm from Milwaukee. I was so excited to see them as we haven’t gotten together since November! We ordered pizza and chatted before heading to bed.
Thursday
On Thursday morning we woke up and grabbed a quick breakfast before Christina and I headed to the gym. I still had to teach my normal Thursday class and it was great to have her join me and meet my gym friends. At just 6 weeks postpartum she did an awesome job in such a tough class.
After the gym we stopped at the store to grab some things for lunch and our cookout later in the day. Once we returned home, the husbands headed out with the little ones for a run. Christina and I headed out to check out a local boutique and took C with us.
Later in the afternoon we had a cookout at our house where some friends from college joined. J cooked ribs, the kids played and it was a great evening. It is amazing how things have changed in 6 years, but we all just pick up right where we left. It was so great to get together with some of my college friends!
Friday
Friday morning I got up early and met Rachel for a quick 7 mile run. We started at the coffee shop and ran a similar route to the Noblesville Half Marathon. After finishing, I brought home some coffees (and cinnamon rolls) for everyone. We sipped our coffee and said our good byes to Christina, Adam and Daphne as they headed to spend the rest of the weekend with their family and us with ours.
We arrived to my hometown just in time for lunch and some afternoon swimming. Both of the kids love being at Grammy & Papaw Thom’s house during the summer- and so do we. We let C light her first sparklers and she loved them!
Once the kids went to bed we enjoyed a few games of backyard volleyball. Don’t let the word “backyard” fool you, we are quite competitive. My best friend from high school’s dad even joined in on the action. After several matches we enjoyed a few beers and s’mores around the fire and relaxed… until Josh decided he would throw me in the pool. Don’t worry, he went it with me too!
Saturday
Saturday began bright and early for my mom and me. My alarm went off at 4:45am! We headed to run a 10k race in Fort Wayne to start our 4th of July festivities. My mom is training for the Chicago Marathon, so after the 10k was over she had to keep going and run another 4.8 to total 11 miles for the day.
My race was not my fastest 10k, but it wasn’t my worst. I was the 8th overall finisher, 4th woman, and 1st place in my division. I ran a 8:02 pace for the 10k. After finished, I grabbed a banana, waited for my mom to finish her 10k and snapped a picture before she headed on to finish her last leg, got my award and then headed back to her house.
On my way home I passed the skating rink where I used to speed skate when I was little (I think that is a blog post in itself). I drove past and noticed my old coach was outside: I have not seen him in well over 10 years… possibly 15. I decided to turn around and stop to see him. It was awesome! Made my weekend! He remembered me and showed me around the rink.
Once I got back to my mom’s house I helped the guys finish packing up the vehicles and as soon as my mom returned we headed to the lake. My sister and her boyfriend joined in on the 4th of July fun as well.
We spent the whole day on Clear Lake and had a great time. Both of the kids love being on the lake and taking boat rides. C did a fantastic job swimming in the lake. It was a beautiful day and by 6pm we were all wore out and decided to call it a day. We headed on home and within minutes both of the kids were asleep and I followed soon after as Josh drove back to my hometown.
Sunday
On Sunday we woke up and met my dad for breakfast. It was great to see him and C & M loved spending time with their Grampsy. When we returned from breakfast it was time for a little backyard baseball. C had fun practicing hitting and throwing… while wearing a Frozen apron of course. J and I had a little Home Run Derby competition… don’t worry, I won!
We swam a lot and played volleyball too. C gets more and more comfortable in the water every time and went all the way to the deep end by herself (using her puddle jumpers). M thought it was fun to put two of the rafts together for him to crawl all over. I love that my kids love the water.
It was an awesome, long, summer weekend! I love spending time with family and friends and making such great memories with my two munchkins. Being outside and by the water is my happy place… I was happy all weekend. I am thankful for my freedom and to live in a country and have a life where I can spend so much time with the ones I love.
