Making fitness a part of your daily routine is tough. Add in that you might not know what to do at the gym or where to start and it makes it even more difficult. When you have a million things on your plate completing a workout seems to be the last thing on the mind of many. This is where a fitness challenge may be just what you need.
Last month I took the plunge and started the first Muscles & Munchkins Fitness Challenge and what a success it was! I took some ideas from a friend and combined them with my own and had a successful Fitness Challenge where 24 people took their fitness to a whole new level.
I was amazed by the drive, friendly competition, encouragement and “no excuse” attitude of the people in my group. Each day I posted a fitness challenge and they completed it for points. Some days there were bonus points that focused on nutrition habits: drinking water, eating veggies and fueling the body properly before and after a workout.
Here is an example of the challenge on day #20: 5 points for at least 30 minutes of your choice of exercise. 5 points for adding something new to your workout. This can be something as simple as trying out a new lift, a new cardio machine or a new class.
Each week I tallied up the points earned and at the end the winner won $100. There were also weekly prizes. Some of the points were given for simply completing the challenge on the given day and other points were given for improvements made on one’s own fitness journey.
The camaraderie of this group was amazing to me! There were people from different parts of the country and the state and some people that joined together and would meet at 5:20 in the morning to complete the day’s challenge together.
No matter where they were geographically or in their fitness journey, everyone pushed each other. Read some of the encouragement that was on our page:
“Great job!! Never say u can’t, because you can!!!! We have to push ourselves if we want results!!! We got this!”
Just that you figured out a way to do all of this at work! So many people use work as an excuse NOT to work out, and you are rocking it out!! good job!
Here is what some of the challenge members had to say about it:
“THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting this together. While it was very….uhh…challenging I really enjoyed it and it was just what I needed. I’m amazed i actually gained a couple pounds but I feel stronger and more capable with my body. It was a great experience and I’d love to do it again!”
“I am excited to do another one of these bc it has pushed me to be stronger and work harder!”
With all that being said, I am excited to announce that Muscles & Munchkins will be hosting not one, BUT two fitness challenges both starting on Monday, March 16th and running for 4 weeks.
1. MOM: Made of Muscle: This fitness challenge will be geared towards people who have gym access , have a steady workout regimen and want to take their lifting, cardio sessions and eating to the next level.
2. Spring Into Fitness: This challenge will be for those who want to start a fitness regimen or get back into the grove of different types of workouts. This requires a set of dumbbells and the workouts will be able to be done at home.
