Hello, Friday am I ever glad you are here! I have been so exhausted this week and today I am finally feeling like myself. On Wednesday night I slept 11 hours plus took an hour and a half that afternoon. After a week of vacation, it feels great to get back into the swing of things.
Despite the pure exhaustion, I have had a great week: I have enjoyed every moment with the kids, have had some tough workouts (Monday’s left me sore until Thursday!), and have cooked some wonderfully healthy dinners. Healthy meals are always a necessity at our house after being away no matter how well we try to eat when we are out of town.
Friday’s Five Favorites
Favorite Munchkin Moment
There is not a single moment that sticks out in my head this week because it was just great to be back with the kids again. We pretty much stuck to our normal routine and had a lot of play time. We even brought the bikes inside this week because it is so darn cold out and we wanted to move.
C is doing a great job with her balance bike and by the time it actually gets warm she will be ready to go! Unfortunately M’s little feet don’t quite reach the ground on the tricycle but he had fun letting me push him around.
Favorite Workout
All of them! It was so nice to get back to lifting some weights this week. All of my workouts were awesome. I especially loved my Thursday Cardio Sculpt class this week where we used the BOSU balls and the ever-so-popular 3-2-1 format by Jillian Michels.
Although this is not the workout we did, you can find a workout in this format here. My class participants love when I use this format and they always say it goes so fast.
Favorite Eat
Wow, I cooked some yummy dinners this week! They then turned into some amazing lunches (I love leftovers). I cooked some homemade chicken fingers for the whole family and then added this yummy sauce to ours. The next day, these made for an amazing chicken salad with spinach, cooked green beans, red peppers, and silvered almonds- no dressing needed. I never took a picture because I am pretty sure I ate it that fast. This is the recipe I used, but of course didn’t follow it exactly.
Favorite Read
My reading has been tied to blogs and NASM study materials lately. You know I love a good blog post from Sally at Real Mom Nutrition and she doesn’t disappoint once again. This post is short and sweet about the “One Bite Rule”.
I have always been honest about C’s eating habits and Sally is usually my go-to for ideas. It drives me crazy (like I want to pull my hair out at every meal kind of crazy) that this child doesn’t eat veggies. I followed every damn rule (excuse my language) when it came to “the ways to introduce rules to avoid picky eating”. Guess what? They didn’t work. I don’t allow snacks close to dinner. That doesn’t work. She still refuses her veggies. I even try the, “green vegetables make you have pointy toes like ballerinas,” and that doesn’t work either.
I usually say “just three bites, because you are a three year old,” and she chokes down the veggies while holding her arms up like she is “strong” thinking those three bites are going to make her strong. Mom-Fail! Every. Single. Night.
So from now on, I will take Sally’s advice and say, “why don’t you try a bite.” I’ll let you know how it goes- I am not holding on to hope, but it is something simple I can try. Or I can also try to disguise the veggies in these veggie nuggets from Sally.
Favorite Item
You know those pants I always talk about? You know the Under Armour ones that I featured in my Holiday Gift Guide, well I still love them, but they have a competitor. I got my new Athleta ones in the mail and I love them too. Don’t worry, now I alternate between the black and grey ones so I am not wearing the same pants every day after my workout. I think I might break down and buy a pair of the lined ones too.
There they are: my five favorite from the week- thanks for reading. I’d love to know some of your favorites, so leave a comment and tell me what you are loving this week. Have a wonderful weekend, fit friends!

Good luck with the picky eater. My youngest is the same way and I would say he goes to be hungry 50% of the week because he refuses dinner. It is SO frustrating!
