I turned my calendar this past weekend (literally) and couldn’t believe I am in my third trimester and just 12 weeks away from meeting this sweet baby that will complete our family… I think. At 28 weeks I am feeling great and our littlest munchkin is the size of an eggplant. And it must be one strong eggplant sized munchkin because this past week Baby SK took the kicking to a whole new level. Some nights I wonder if baby was doing a dance or maybe kicking a soccer ball back and forth.
This morning I had my glucose test and a regular check up. Everything went well and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will pass my test. I actually enjoyed my hour long wait at the doctor’s office: it was quiet, I listened to a podcast and did a little studying while drinking my black coffee.
I am still saying that SK is baby girl “K”, but my hubby’s guess is still baby boy “S”- we will see come July. Until then, we will just keep on growing and enjoying this pregnancy. Keep reading to see what else is going on as I strive for a fit pregnancy and my journey to mommy of three little munchkins.
Weight Gain
I have officially gained 24 pounds with means I gained 6 pounds in the last 4 weeks. You read that correctly, I am just one pound away from the recommended weight. I gained exactly 37 pounds with the other two, so I am assuming I will gain close to that if not more this time.
I workout 5-6 days a week and I eat pretty well. I have really honed in on my nutrition lately to see if it would make a difference and I still gained 6 pounds in four weeks. I believe my body just knows what it needs to grow this healthy baby. When I was pregnant with C I only worked out 3 times a week (if that) and I often stopped for french fries and a coke at Mcdonald’s on the way home from work (yes, you read that correctly). I gained the same amount of weight with my second and first and I would say my second was definitely a fit pregnacy- not my first.
I always get a little nervous around appointment time with my weight gain. Although my doctor is not worried about it at all, there are over ten doctors in my practice and I don’t always see my doctor so I am never sure if a different doctor would feel differently. Today I didn’t see my doctor and decided to just ask the doctor about my weight gain to see if she had a different perspective than mine and she didn’t. She was not worried about me already gaining the recommended amount and still having 12 weeks to go. She asked me what I ate daily, how much I worked out and she said I am doing great. My blood pressure is awesome, I haven’t had any swelling and I am measuring perfect. it really is just a number on the scale!
You can read why I have decided to share my weight gain with my readers on my 12 week post here.
Symptoms
Besides being tired and having a little pressure after a long workout, I am feeling awesome! Like I talked about in my favorite things during my second trimester, I do take a nap daily. I do feel like my iron might be a little low because I am so tired, but people tell me it is because I am also chasing two littles!
Workouts
I am still going strong at 5-6 workouts per week. Last week I taught 6 classes in four days so I took two rest days. I did do my own workout one of the days on top of teaching. I am starting to notice that I get sore and tired a little faster than usual, but that is to be expected.
I also gave myself a little “mile test” because I wanted to check my pace. I ran a mile in 8:49 the other day and was quite happy with that. I haven’t ventured out for anything over 3 miles and I am not sure I will anymore. I think 3 miles is my happy place right now and I am okay with that. I also like doing 100m intervals.
Food Aversions & Cravings
Whew, I fell off the sugary cereal kick that I posted about at 24 weeks and fell onto the fig newton kick. I love fig newtons! I am still also drinking a ton of lemon water because I am always so thirsty.
Goals
Last time I said I wanted to get in a couple long runs and I am letting go of that goal– it is just a lot of pressure and stops to go potty. I just hope to get in one or two short runs per week and continuing to lift heavy. I believe continuing with the lifting and the HIIT cardio will be the most beneficial in the long run. Who needs steady-state cardio anyways?
As long as I am fueling myself with lean protein, veggies and healthy grains I feel good and am going to let go of beating myself up over a mini ice cream cone or two in the evenings. Balance is key!
Sleep
One of the reasons I am so tired is probably because I am up from about 1-2:30am every night. I get up to go to the restroom and then have the hardest time falling asleep. I should read or something, but instead I just toss and turn trying to get back to sleep… and thinking about my kitchen renovation.
Feelings & Fun
We enjoyed (probably) our last vacation as a family of 4 a couple of weeks again and it was a perfect, relaxing week away– just what we needed.
My hubby also started a new job which means a lot less travel and we are all thrilled. I am so proud of him because this is so great for our family on many fronts and he has worked his butt off to earn this type of opportunity. We will trade in all of our frequent flyer miles to have him home with us any day.
C has officially felt the baby move and she gets excited! Although sometimes she moves her hand and says, “I feel the baby!” It is so fun this time having her really understand that she will be getting a new brother or sister and I know she is going to be even more of a mother hen.
M has been sleeping in his toddler bed and preparing for his crib to get passed down. He is doing a great job. Some nights we go in to check on him and he has moved to the floor, but overall he is doing great. I was keeping him in his crib for naps, but he started climbing out.
Check out my other posts documenting the journey to baby #3:
I can’t believe I will now be seeing the doctor every two weeks and only have 3 more “updates” on here until baby comes– or we begin to play that waiting game since my children are notorious for going past 40 weeks. I hope that I continue encourage some other expecting moms to strive towards a fit and healthy pregnancy.

I’m 22.5 weeks pregnant and not NEARLY as active as you. Running and any jumping exercises started to hurt so I slowed down, and I have had trouble being motivated to workout with modifications. I’m working on getting back to my insanity workouts 2-3 times a week with lighter workouts in between. Working on nutrition to make sure I give my body and baby what WE need. I’m at 11lbs gained and don’t feel too bad about that. Love your pregnancy posts to help me be motivated both in nutrition and fitness!
