Before my second trimester comes to an end, I thought I would share a day of eating at 23 weeks pregnant. Out of my three pregnancies, I feel like I have kept my paint the most normal during this pregnancy. Of course, there are a few things I have been eating that I normally don’t eat, but overall, I feel like I am eating decently well.
The one thing I will say is that the last month my appetite has increased… a lot. I feel starving mid afternoon and just want to keep eating and keep eating. I have given in to something I never buy and probably haven’t bought since I was pregnant with C. Yes, you do the math: that 4 years ago! Keep on reading and figure out what it is- or maybe you can guess.
What I Ate Wednesday
I have been waking up early to study and always start my day with 32 ounces of water and this morning was not any different. 32 ounces of water.. with lemon of course.
Breakfast
Once I was done studying, I started on my cup of coffee and then finally ate breakfast around 7:45. I have been increasing my both my breakfasts and lunches in hopes that I will not be ravenously hungry mid afternoon. For breakfast I had: 2 eggs and one egg white with a spoonful of avocado, a slice of cinnamon raising ezekiel toast and a blow of strawberries (I ate most of them while my eggs were cooking).
Post Workout Eats
Each morning I also prepare my post workout eats and this morning was not any different and I put them in my gym bag so I could dig in when my workout was over. As I sat and did a quick anatomy review before grabbing my kids from the gym daycare, I ate my oatmeal with almond butter and blueberries along with 1 hard boiled egg and 2 hard boiled egg whites. (And I ate it so quickly I forgot to snap my picture.)
Pre Lunch Snack
After the gym, we headed to the grocery store and thank goodness I had a good post workout snack because I only caved and bought one thing that wasn’t on my list…. fig newtons, which I have not had since I trained for my marathon in 2010! While I was getting the lunch on the table for my munchkins, I snacked on two newtons- YUM!
Lunch
Once there was lunch on the table for them, I had a big lunch. My daughter even said, “Whoa Mom, that is a BIG lunch,” of course with her emphasizing the word big. For lunch was a grilled tortilla with avocado, tomato and chicken. I cut up the rest of the chicken and ate it my itself. I also ate slices of red pepper and cucumber along with a stick of cheese. I am not usually a big dairy person, but I have been loving a stick of cheese or small bowl of cottage cheese. I was hoping my big lunch would help me mid afternoon.
Afternoon Snack
If I get up early in the morning to study, then there is no way I can make it through my day without a 45 minute afternoon nap and today was not any different. The only bad thing about napping is that I always wake up and want sugar- it is the strangest thing. Last week I started craving sugary cereal, something I don’t buy. Last week I had cocoa pebbles and fruit loops and this weekend I bought a huge box of lucky charms- I am not really proud, but I am being transparent. After my nap, I dug into some lucky charms… and two more fig newtons.
The only positive thing was that last week I was eating two bowls of cereal mid afternoon and sometimes one more after dinner and today I just had the one bowl. Once that box is gone, that is it, I keep telling myself I am not buying anymore.
Dinner
The cereal and newtons kept me full until dinner and after a bike ride with the family and some backyard fun, we were all ready for dinner. It was such a nice day and J was more than pleased to fire up the grill. We had chicken sausages from Fresh Thyme, baked potatoes, and Siracha honey brussel sprouts and it was delicious! My husband even said he really liked the brussel sprouts- usually he says they are just okay.
After dinner, I headed upstairs to shower and brush my teeth: the best way to prevent myself from eating another bowl of lucky charms. After the kids were in bed, I sat on the couch with yet another glass of lemon water. I don’t ever post what I drink throughout the day because it consists of two things: coffee and lemon water. Early on in my pregnancy I was craving coke and was giving in to fountain sodas too often, but I luckily stopped that. now it is back to water and coffee.
Besides the cereal and the increased number of eggs I eat in the morning and post workout, I feel like my eating is pretty normal. I feel like I am definitely adding the calories needed during my second trimester and overall am feeling pretty great! Next time I post another What I Ate Wednesday, I will be in my third trimester– what?!?!

I NEVER eat cereal or drink milk but a few weeks ago I was dying for some cereal so bought a box of organic cinnamon grahams. I tried to drink them with Almond milk but no good. So regular milk it was! So weird! Yay for almost third trimester! Are you 27 weeks already? I thought you were a few behind me. I hit 27 next week and can’t wait to be third trimester!!!!!

I hear you. I can still do the almond milk, but I will say the one dairy thing I am liking is cottage cheese- weird! I am not 27 weeks yet, I will be 24 Sunday. I am about 3.5 weeks behind you. With the other two I had a burst of second trimester energy, but not with this one. I am waiting for it. I am trying to enjoy this last pregnancy because I think this is it.
