Turkey Trot, Drumstick Dash, Wishbone 5K, Gobbler’s Jog, you name it, I am sure you have seen all the Thanksgiving Day races available in your community. Whether you choose to run a race or not, there is value to some type of physical activity on Thanksgiving day.
At our house, it is tradition to get bundled up and run a local race. Each year the race has varied, but the race we are doing this year is one we hope to stick with as it is in the community where we live and benefits a good cause. In the past, we have bundled Claire up and put her in the jogger to join us for the family affair, but tomorrow is going to be too cold for the kids. Luckily my in-laws are near and are happy to take the kids in the morning while we get on our feet before we eat.
Exercising before you indulge in a big meal helps your body burn more calories throughout the day. For some reason it also makes me feel better that I get moving and increase my heart rate before I indulge in lots of yummy food. When I incorporate exercise, it helps me stay on track and not feel that I have “fallen off the wagon” for a whole day- and it generally makes me feel better throughout the day.
Whatever you choose, just get on your feet and MOVE!
1. Find a local run
2. Go for a power walk around your block
3. Get some friends and/ or family together for a game of basketball.
4. Go to the park and complete an obstacle course with your kids.
5. Complete an at-home workout- 15 minutes and better than nothing.
This Thanksgiving, I challenge you to make YOUR fitness a priority before you enjoy your time with family surrounded by delicious food. Once you have moved your feet and increased your heart rate, enjoy your meal and your loved ones.
Happy Thanksgiving Eve!
Your turn- tell me!
How will you get moving before your feast tomorrow?
