The first 2.5 weeks of being a mom of three was quite easy and then there was this week. I am learning that being a mom of three I can never expect to be on time and I just need to roll with the punches, slow down and cherish the time I have with all three kids at home because the days are long and the years are short. So that is what I am doing and today I am reflecting on the things I loved from this week- especially my “Munchkin Moments”.
My husband was out of town this week so the kids and I headed up to my mom’s so that I could have an extra set of hands for help and we could enjoy some pool time. It is so much easier to be at my mom’s pool than our neighborhood pool. The big kids can enjoy the pool while S is napping inside and C can continue to swim while M takes his afternoon nap. Not to mention I appreciate the help I get in the mornings and evenings from my mom. She is so good at playing and being active with the kids and they adore their Grammy.
Friday’s Five Favorites
It was a great week at Grammy’s and we are happy to be back home as a family of 5. Before we get this weekend started, let’s take a moment and see what I was loving this week as well as a new addition: Friday Blog Flashbacks.
Favorite Munchkin Moment
Since I am trying to cherish this time, I feel like I could write this post of all the favorite munchkin moments I have loved from this week, but instead I will limit it to just a few.
As we were on our 2 hour drive north, C had to go potty, it was getting close to S needing to nurse and of course M was telling me he had to “poop” (note: he is not potty trained, but thinks he is). We were still 40 minutes away from my mom’s and I also needed gas. Instead of stressing out, I decided to roll with it. We stopped at an exit with a Starbucks and made the most of it. We sat outside and had a little “coffee date”. I enjoyed a cup of coffee while nursing and the kiddos had a cake pop. It was something I will always remember and I am proud that I slowed down to enjoy the moment with them.
I have also enjoyed all the little smiles and grins I have gotten from S this week. At three weeks old he has been smiling a ton this week and is the most laid back baby (I am pretty sure he has no other choice). I also enjoyed sitting out on the pool deck at night and watching the big kids swim with Grammy while holding S. C is becoming quite the swimmer and no longer needs her puddle jumpers and M thinks it is funny to skinny dip at night (less laundry for me).
Favorite Workout
My workouts are quite short and lower intensity right now, but I am enjoying breaking a sweat and working on some programming for my “Learn to Lift” bootcamp that is coming soon. We are starting with body weight movements, so that is what I have been doing. I forget how much a good bodyweight workout can work your whole body.
Favorite Eat
I made a modified version of one of my favorite summer salads this week and enjoyed it so much I made it twice! My go-to lunch is usually a salad or rice bowl of some sort and I love it when I can just throw things in a bowl that I have in the refrigerator. This creation came together with everything we had on hand at my mom’s house. I usually put mangoes in this salad, but since I had some ripe peaches that needed to be used I substituted.
This yummy summer salad consists of spinach, romaine, brown rice, chicken, peach, avocado and slivered almonds. I of course topped it with a little bit of balsamic and quickly ate it up. If I could eat cheese I would have added some goat cheese crumbles to it- yum!
Favorite Read
Have you seen this video “Possibility” going around the web this week? If you haven’t, you need to
watch it. Although it isn’t a “read” it really hit home with me. These two statistics stuck out to me:
- By middle school, girls earn higher grades in science but feel less confident than boys
- By age 11, 30 percent of girls will try a diet
This makes me so sad and every night I pray for my little girl’s confidence– every single night. Watching this video make reading Violet the Pilot extra special last night before bedtime. I want my sweet C to know that if she wants to be a pilot, an engineer, a police officer or politician she can! If you have a little girl, watch that video and put Violet the Pilot in your Amazon cart!

When it comes to skincare, makeup, etc that is definitely not my forte and nor do I like to spend a ton of money on it. Awhile back I read Julie’s post on Rosehip oil and had been thinking about trying it ever since. I finally bit the bullet and started using Rosehip oil on my face, nails, and even on M’s face where he has a little scar. This is now the only thing I use on my face. I use it as a moisturizer and makeup remover. I wish I would have done one of those before and after pictures because my husband made a comment the other day about how great my skin looked. And M’s little scar is slowly fading too. The best thing is, it is friendly on the budget…$14!

Ohmygosh, your little one smiling is too cute. I only have one, but going to grammy’s is the BEST! 🙂 And I really like that bootcamp approach – learn to lift. I already know how to lift 🙂 but looking forward to hearing more and would be happy to share on social!!

Thank you, Sarah. I want to help those women who aren’t sure how to start with strength training.
