On Friday we started a weekend-long celebration for the main man in our house: my hubby! All he wanted for his 34th Birthday was time with us- and that is what he got.
But before I recap the weekend in its entirety, I want to give a little shoutout to the Birthday guy…
Tribute
This man is amazing! I know I said it in my tribute last year, but I need to say it again. I wanted to celebrate him BIG time, but he never wants me to make a big deal out of his Birthday. He is the most selfless person I have ever met.
He is truly the leader of our family. He prays with us each night even when he is traveling. Each day he wakes up and works so hard for our family. He always says, “I do it for you and the kids,” and we are so appreciative of his work and ambition.
He loves so big! When he is home, he is always engaged and interactive with C & M. Every night he goes in before we go to bed to check on them and give them an extra kiss good night. And how lucky am I that he goes to bed with me each night. Yes, even after being married for almost 6.5 years, we still go to bed at the same time.
He is my biggest supporter and I truly feel blessed each day to be married to him. Happy 34th Birthday to my love!
Friday
After a long week of travel, he got off the plane, came straight home and we headed to the pumpkin patch for a hayride and choosing our pumpkins. The kiddos loved it and it was great to be together.
We had great intentions of a low key pizza dinner at a local pizza joint. Unfortunately, after two hours, our pizza never came and we left. At least the kids had their pizza, we had a couple of beers and enjoyed our appetizer.
Saturday
J is a runner, but has not been “feeling the running love” lately. He has been talking about getting into running trails so I signed us up for a trail run on Saturday morning. We did not run our fastest 5k times because man trail running is hard! We had an absolute blast! The weather was perfect.
He even took a little spill, but that didn’t take away from his excitement. Afterwards he said, “I want to do that again, that is the most fun I have had running in years.” To say the least, I think his spark for running was rejuvenated.
We spent the rest of the day Saturday hanging out at home, watching football and relaxing as a family. It was much needed. Once the kids went to bed we cooked a nice dinner at home: steaks on the grill, homemade macaroni and cheese, and broccoli. It was so good that we planned on playing some Yahtzee after, but we both fell asleep on the couch. Don’t worry we woke up for a bowl of ice cream before bed.
Sunday
We did our usual Sunday routine of church followed by breakfast. He of course got to pick our place for breakfast and chose The Original Pancake House.
After church we came home and he put up the bounce house for C & M to play in while I went to the grocery store and he did some work in the yard. Seriously, who does that on their Birthday weekend? I couldn’t argue because he said it was “what he wanted”.
Later in the day, his parents, sister and our nephew came over for dinner. By his request, I cooked two delicious soups, and made my infamous pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. My mother-in-law brought over some artisan bread that we topped with brie and apples- amazing!
Overall, it was such a great, relaxing weekend and he said it was exactly what he wanted! He is not really a gift person, but I did get him a little something. Here is to another year of many more memories, laughs and a whole lot of love with this guy, the leader of our family… and our two little munchkins.
Your turn- tell me!
How was your weekend?
How do you celebrate birthdays in your family?
