It is that time of month again to recognize the FitParent of the month. I love that this Fit Mom of a toddler and a bun in the oven is still rocking her workouts in her third trimester. She is the true meaning of “Fit Pregnancy”!
Meet Lydia
Lydia is a stay at home mom who might not sit down once throughout her day. In addition to her own little toddler, she is often helping out with her niece and nephew. She is always providing fun, engaging activities for all the kiddos and keeps them moving too.
She is quite the homemaker! Most evenings, Lydia provides a home cooked meal for for her family… that is after she has already been out to her chicken coop to gather her eggs. Yes, you read that correctly, she also raises her own chickens!
Although her duties at home keep Lydia busy, I love that she also had time to give back to her community. Lydia has recently taken on the role of coach as well. She is now a coach for Girls on the Run of Allen County. Those girls are sure lucky to have a strong, confident role model like her.
My favorite thing I have learned about Lydia is that she nourishes herself and her family with good nutrition them ever feeling deprived. They have their comfort food and treats here and there, but in moderation.
Without further ado, let’s learn more…
Q: What inspires you?
Lydia: I am inspired by my parents, my 2 year old bundle of energy and my grandparents. My grandparents are still driving at 91 and 87! They are an amazing inspiration of health and living life!
I have always been an athlete and someone who never sit down. My parents weren’t ever people who you would find running miles or doing squats but they were always moving and watched what they ate in moderation. We never had special diets, but there was always a meal on the table as a family every night. You could catch us pulling weeds, throwing bails of hay, or mowing the grass. Growing up as a landscaper’s kid I knew the meaning of hard work. I developed a love for moving my body just like my parents! My friends ask me how I get so much done or how I am not tired, I say, “I just keep moving!”
Q: How do you make time in your busy schedule for your own health and fitness?
Lydia: I do my best for making time for my workouts and runs when delaney is napping and or she comes along to the park to run trails and do push ups, squats, etc. She loves watching mommy workout and “trying” what mommy does. I try to cook fairly healthy as well, but I truly live life by moderation- no special diets in our household.
Q: What is your favorite workout?
Lydia: My favorite workout would have to be a good run. I was never a runner until after college, and I just enjoy getting out and beating pavement. My goal for myself after baby #2 is a half marathon. I would love to do a mini tri but I am not awesome at swimming, will have to work On that one. I also love good walking lunges that I can feel the burn while working out and the next day.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do with your munchkins?
Lydia: My favorite thing to do with Delaney is to go out everyday and collect eggs from our chicken coop. It is such a cool thing because she is so careful with the eggs and puts them so gently into the bucket. My second favorite would have to be our walks down the driveway (it is pretty long) and playing in our barn.
Q: What is a goal you have for yourself?
Lydia: My goal after this baby is to run a half marathon and to go back to college weight. I got there fairly easy after Delaney and hope to get there again after this baby. I am in much better shape during this pregnancy and not gaining as much weight, so I feel I can push myself to get to that goal weight.
Your turn- tell me!
What is something one of your friends or family members does to stay fit that inspires you?
